Woody Guthrie: The Asch Recordings Vol 1 (CD 1999) Folk Country Great Depression A pretty damn good recording of an artist whose work needs to be remembered. He shows a picture of America that is not very pretty, but full of great people down on their luck due to no fault of their own. The power structure of this country was brutal not just to black people but to poor people as well. It behooves us not to forget the Great Depression and what it spawned for the people who had to live through it. Woody tells us about them in these twenty-seven songs. The disc and case are in excellent condition. The new postal
rates are a crushing blow to small businesses. The lowest rate for media mail
used to be $3.19. Now, the che apest book I can ship is $3.65—for a pocket book
size of approx. 250 pages+-. A large trade paperback that I mailed for $3.86 a
year ago is now $5.75. The large volume shippers have a contract with the PO,
and they can sell any book as cheap as $3 or $4 with free shipping, but the
shipping alone costs me more than that. For an old man selling his library,
it’s almost unbeatable competition. But
even now when I'm charging more for shipping than ever before, I am still
losing my ass on it, especially when you take out Ebay's 14.55% cut. It doesn't
make sense for me to sell old maps for $3-5 plus $7.60 shipping when the
shipping, which for maps has to go First Class mail rather than the lower Media
Mail rate, really does cost $7 or so. Add Pricetronic's 15% to that and it's $8.05 and
I'm still losing money. I have started bundling my listings, offering two or
three books either by the same author, or on the same topic. I'm also starting
to bundle the maps together because it takes too damn much work for a $4 or $5
map. This will actually lessen the cost per map for the buyer. I think my New
England six-map bundle will only cost $2 per map, versus the previous $3-5
price. The postage increases are very steep but bundling seems to be only the
first logical response. I have no ideas for any further steps after that but
would love to hear some. We
do not ship internationally EXCEPT through Ebay's foreign shipping service. Please save me as a
seller for World War I, World War II, Western Americana, the Indian Wars, the
fur trade, mountaineering, politics (mostly lefty), economics, travel, fiction,
art, and an eclectic selection of science books, especially astronomy,
cosmology, human origins, geology and archaeology. I've been listing a lot
of maps--antiques, vintage USGS topographical and USGS geological maps, all of
western states. I also have a few listings for vintage/antique records and CD’s.
I don't have all categories listed all the time. I get a little
long-winded when writing my descriptions, so I usually only get five or ten
listings done on any given day. Also, please understand
that we are not gouging you on shipping cost. Ebay takes a final value fee on
every item we sell, of course, but they are also collecting the final value fee
on shipping. Consequently, if we charge actual shipping cost, we lose 14.55% on
shipping. So we add about 15% to cover Ebay’s cut. Please be aware that I
am disabled with limited support resources and can only make it to the Post
Office once a week, usually on Saturday or Monday.
