This sturdy, heavy construction Zenith DVD recorder/VHS VCR combination deck is a model I acquired several years ago and supplied to a teacher for making DVD compilations of movie tape segments of home-recorded VHS recordings, used within Fair Use Guidelines in the classroom. It's come back into my possession, but I already have another similar deck. I've put it through its paces in VHS to DVD recording, finalizing, and playback, now offering it in confidence that it will serve you well.
I am almost 100% certain that this machine was manufactured for Zenith by LG, though Zenith previously got their VCRs built by JVC. It weighs twice that of later-built models. It shares design and apperance, especially inside. (As a college AV technician I do get inside these machines for servicing.)
Besides being able to copy directly internally from VHS and VHS-C (with your VHS-C cassette adapter), this deck has input connectors of S-Video for S-VHS, S-VHS-C and some camcorders, DV in for digital-to-digital transfer from MiniDV, Digital8, and DVCAM camcorder sources. And, of course it has composite video RCA in and stereo audio in for compatibility with Video8 (8mm) and all composite video + audio sources.
Something that is not mentioned by many sellers of these consumer DVD recorders is that they are designed to shut down if you try to copy internally from copyrighted commericially produced VHS movie tapes made from about the mid-1980s and later, as the Copyguard type encryption in the tapes will prevent unauthorized duplication. You can copy from your home-recorded movies, including TV programming you recorded on your VHS VCR.
The included remote control is the correct original, allowing navigation to all features, including the essential Finalize process that makes your recorded DVDs recorded in this machine compatible with other DVD players. Besides the remote control and cable set to connect from a camcorder or to your TV, a pair of compatible DVD-R discs is included. You may also record to DVD-RW rewriteable discs.
