Very well laid out remote: Buttons are different sizes, shapes and colors to make it easier to use. The more often used buttons are larger and well placed. It is easy to use the remote by feel in the dark without having to look at the buttons or hitting the wrong buttons. Can set DVD recording speed in infinite gradations. That is, I can set the total recording time on the disk to be whatever I want it to be between 1 and 8 hours. (For example, I can chose 2 hours, 43 minutes.) On my other recorders, I could chose recording times of only 1 hour, or 2, 4 or 6 hours per DVD. So, if transferring a video or copying something that's 2 hours and 10 minutes long, I can set the speed to 2H10M on the Pioneer, rather than 4 hours on my other machines. The slower speed on other machines reduces the video quality. This model gives your great flexibility in setting up the title/menu page and provides for about eight different backgrounds to choose from. Makes it more visually appealing and easier to select. Has a separate button to stop recording from the one to stop play on both the remote and the front of the unit. This makes it less likely that you will accidentally hit the stop button while recording and mess up the recording. Has saved me from messing up many a recording. Similar to a DVR, you can pause a show that you're watching and recording (say, for a phone call)and pick up where you paused it. Fast in loading a disk when inserted. Most of the remote controls are also on the front of the unit. Easy to read display both on screen and on the front of the unit. This unit also has a built in tuner (although it is a standard definition analog tuner) rather than hi definition digital. It has become harder and harder to find a DVD recorder with a built in tuner because so many of us are now using our cable boxes as our tuners so most newer recorder require you to input the signal from the cable to record.
