Parts Tascam Portastudio Mf-p01 Multi Track Recorder

This listing is for a Tascam Portastudio MF-P01 Multi Track Recorder Cassette Tape with AC Adaptor. It's for "Parts Only". I have printed out the User Manual and will include the printed version with the item. Here's what I know. When plugged in, all of the lights will work. I connected a Microphone into the microphone input jack in the front of the unit. I connected headphones into the headphone out jack on the back of the unit... the sound that I speak into the microphone comes out into the headphones. I connected RCA cables into the Line out L&R and then connected those cables into my Stereo Receiver input side. When I speak into the microphone, the sounds come out of my stereo receiver speakers and the headphone simultaneously. When I adjust the input level slider (labeled 1 through 10), and speak into the microphone, it increases and decreases the number of lights that illuminate on the Record Level, for instance:

+5 -  all lights on 

  0 -  3 lights on 

-5  -  2 lights on

-10 - 1 light on

When I push the various
recording track (1,2,3,4) buttons, they each will light up indicating what track is being recorded.
HOWEVER, when I try to record something, it won't record. The cassette mechanism is working as expected. Forward, Reverse, Play and Record buttons all can be levered down and the cassette will turn as expected. However, I just can't figure out why it won't record. I even purchased a brand new High Position Type 2 cassette as recommended
in the instructions, but nothing seems to work. Even pre-recorded tapes that I have (Normal Bias Type 1) produce no sound. I honestly don't know if it's a malfunctioning unit, or I simply don't know what I'm doing. I purchased this at an estate sale where everything else I bought seems to be working just fine. Because of all of this, I'm listing this as FOR PARTS ONLY - AS IS.  The AC Adapter is not the original, it is one I found that matches the voltage listed on the back of the machine where your plug it in.
