Well kept/stored tapes, purchased new and recorded on once. They are modified S-VHS tapes to be used with a D-VHS, D-Theater VCR.
These tapes were modified by drilling an addition hole at the bottom of the cassette to emulate a DVHS tape. Most SVHS tapes worked well, these brands (JVC, Maxell, TDK) worked the best. Standard VHS tapes will not work as a D-VHS tape, something to do with the density of the tape coating.
They are backwards compatible and can be recorded over on either DVHS, SVHS or standard VHS machines without issue.
