It has been tested in record mode, including the vital Finalize process, to ensure that the recorded discs play back on this recorder/player and on another player of other brand. The included correct remote control is what allows access to the Finalize and other menu controls, such as recording quality mode. Selectable front and rear panel inputs allow for convenient connection of a camcorder or other component you want to copy from to DVD, without having to pull out the recorder from a shelved location, as you may keep this unit connected to your TV as your main DVD playing source. Besides RCA connectors, you have S-Video input to maintain highest quality copying from Hi8 or S-VHS. Your camcorder was furnished when new with a compatible play cable set for connection. The included cable set will connect from any VCR and many camcorders, and if you need the S-Video connection, just ask with purchase, and I'll include a S-Video cable at no added cost. Something other sellers may not know to tell you is that any consumer DVD recorder, like this one, can only record non-copyrighted material that is not encoded with copy protection such as "Copyguard".  You can input your home-recorded TV programing and your home-recorded movies. HOWEVER, FOR LEGAL USES, such as making excerpts of copyrighted material for educational use in an educational setting, this set includes a device that defeats the copyguard from feature movie VHS tapes to allow copying to this DVD recorder. It also allows transfer from a PAL video source player playing PAL video to this recorder's North American NTSC DVD system. (You would have to have a PAL DVD recorder to transfer through the converting device from NTSC to PAL.) All cables and power supply (not shown) that will be needed are included. This DVD recorder was tested by an AV technician with a 38 year career in audio and video. It passed testing, doing all that it was designed to. Lots of used DVD recorders will play, but not record, and some will even record, but not finalize. This one is tested to confirm it does all it was designed to accomplish.
