Isabel Vargas Lizano (San Joaquín, Costa Rica, April 17, 1919-Cuernavaca, Mexico, August 5, 2012), known as Chavela Vargas, was a Costa Rican and Mexican singer and actress from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She is considered a main figure and great peculiar artist of Mexican ranchera music, and an important influence for many Latin American popular music artists, even serving as an inspiration for various film figures such as the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar and several others. Due to her vocal style, she was known as The Rough Voice of Strong and Harmonic Tenderness. In 2007 she was distinguished with the Grammy Award for Musical Excellence from the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Definitely a classic album that you must have in your vinyl collection.
