Struggle is one of the first albums produced after Guthrie began recording for renowned producer Moe Asch, and is the first in a series Asch called “American Documentary,” inspired by Guthrie’s idea for “ballads describing the major events of the week or month.” Struggle contains some of his most powerful ballads: “Ludlow Massacre” about the 1914 massacre of Colorado miners, and “1913 Massacre”—“one of his most delicate, affecting and personal works” (Klein, 300-1). Tracks include: Union Burying Ground, Lost John, Buffalo Skinners, Pretty Boy Floyd, Ludlow Massacre, and 1913 Massacre. Sonny Terry performed Lost John, Woody Guthrie performed all the other cuts. Asch Records 360, produced in 1945. The album shows wear at the spine, with the blue felt of the spine cloth faded on the spine itself, with wear where the spine meets the boards. The boards show light soiling, light wear on corners and edges. The RARE BOOKLET INSERT IS PRESENT. The shellac LOOKS GREAT with realistically only a very light scratch or scuff seen over all six sides, I'll conservatively grade VG++; they look unplayed. Harper 78s
