**** THIS TD 124 WILL BE ON OFFER "BUY IT NOW" UNTIL AUGUST 8. IF IT DOES NOT SELL BY THEN, I WILL SEPARATE AND AUCTION TABLE, ARM, CARTRIDGE AND ACCESSORIES INDIVIDUALLY. **** My dear friend and audio mentor sold me this beautiful, VERY early TD 124 about 25 years ago. He had removed the clutch (hated any part that might rattle or vibrate under the hood) and painted the top of the platter black. I never laid eyes on the original rubber mat. Instead I've chosen a very high end cork mat. If you must have the original rubber one, in addition to the clutch assembly, or any other OEM parts, they are out there to be refitted to this. However, I never approached this as a "collector's" piece as much as an brilliant and musical mechanism with which to listen to my record collection. Rather than restoring it to its original state, I have pursued smaller "upgrades" with sonic implications in mind. I also never missed that clutch I never had. Truth be told, I just don't listen to it as often as I would like. It resides in my secondary system, beloved but pretty lonely. In all the years I've owned it, it's seen modest use, probably under 200 hours a year, and fewer still in recent years. I believe it is time to set sail on a whole new adventure! Here are a few words of introduction: First year ~ 1957 ~ production, Serial Number 4799. This is the 3,799th TD 124 ever produced! The first year production run began at #1000. It is in excellent mechanical and very good cosmetic condition. Comes with: • Original OEM Thorens TD 124 plinth • Stax UA-7 unipivot tonearm with carbon pipe and spare chrome arm tube (I made the mounting board, so it's not perfect looking), • Audio-Technica AT6006R auto tonearm lift • Denon DL-103R in EXCELLENT (low hours) condition, sounds wonderful and is well matched with tonearm IMO • 2 spare (used) idler wheels • One presumably original black armboard ~ for Ortofon arm? • Original bearing end cap and thrust plate • Stax AU-7 picture packet • Truly amazing maintenance instructions from a Thorens lover I encountered online many years ago. Very good insights and recos from an experienced and passionate lover of the 124. The motor is strong, steady and quiet. I upgraded to metal idler wheel with replacement o-ring tires, brass/bronze bearing end cap & 6 mm thrust plate, modernized mounting grommets. NOTE: clutch removed; orig platter top painted black; no orig rubber mat (high quality cork mat); no orig Thorens 45 adapter ring inset at spindle (generic plastic 45 adapter included). Sold "as-is;" sale is final. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding.
