She is a light-voiced Manon with a truly girlish glint in her sound. If you had to imagine a French soprano of her era, you would come up with her voice. She sings her way through some of the very high, coloratura passages, but she also manages to be quite moving in the heroine's darker moments. In her purely spoken moments, she lives in the character. Reda Caire (real name: Joseph Gandhour) (1908–1963) was a popular singer of operettes in Paris in the 1930s and 1950s.[1][2][3] Gandhour was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1908.[1] He took his stage name from his hometown.[1] He starred in the movie, L'enfant de minuit.[4] During the Second World War, he was accused of being Jewish.[5] He was gay, though closeted.[3] He was buried in Saint-Zacharie, France in 1963.[2] Reda Caire (stage name of Joseph Gandhour), born in Cairo, Egypt, February 4, 1905 and died September 9, 1963 in Clermont-Ferrand, is a popular singer of the 1930s. Summary Biography He is the son of Bey Gandhour, high official of the Egyptian government, and of an heiress of the Belgian nobility (his mother indeed belonged to the family of Berner-Renoz de Walden, one of the oldest families of the Belgian nobility) . His stage name is inspired by his Egyptian origins (Reda, Egyptian first name, and Cairo from the name of his birthplace - Cairo). He made his debut in Lyon in an operetta troupe at the age of twenty, then made it his profession in 1928. In 1934, after being "mounted" in Paris, he recorded I would like a small boat (A. Parera - Robert Valaire) and Les Beautiful Spring Sundays (J. Laurent, G. Gabaroche). These two successes consecrate him king of the music hall, alongside Maurice Chevalier, whom he apparently surpassed in popularity. It will remain popular until the end of the 1950s. Its impresario is Émile Audiffred. Reda Caire, throughout his career, remained faithful to the world of operetta, which had seen him begin. He is a dazzling Prince Danilo in La Veuve joyeuse, devotes himself to a modern and quality repertoire and creates, in Paris, shortly before the Second World War, Balalaïka. At the declaration of war, the Odeon of Marseille (a Mecca years earlier for the so-called Marseille operettas by René Sarvil and Émile Audiffred) saw him create, alongside Pierre Larquey and Milly Mathis, Destination inconnue, a work one of its favorite authors, Gaston Gabaroche. In 1962 he gave a final recital at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Marseille. He died at the age of fifty-eight of a cardiac arrest on September 9, 1963 in Clermont-Ferrand. He is buried in the village of Saint-Zacharie during a funeral attended by his friend Fernandel among others. Subsequently, its name will be given to the main square of the village (Reda-Caire square). If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise. "SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing. "VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing. "Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
